Tour Details

Situated on the northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Fanta Route is renowned for its ease, often referred to as the “Fanta” route. This path winds through breathtaking landscapes, offering a minimum trek duration of six days, with options for seven to eight days. Unlike the Marangu route, the Fanta Route features camps along the way. The journey commences south of the Kenyan border, eventually merging with the Marangu route for the summit climb. After reaching the summit, the descent follows the Marangu route back to the Marangu Gate, where you’ll sign out and be driven back to your hotel.

Itinerary

Day 1Moshi - Rongai Gate - Simba Camp

Elevation: 800m – 1950 m – 2650 m
Distance: 8km 
Hiking time 3 -4 hours 
Habitat: montane forest.
 
After breakfast, the shuttle will collect you from the hotel and transport you to Rongai Gate. The journey to Rongai Gate offers views of villages, coffee plantations, and banana trees. Upon arrival, you will register and have your equipment weighed. Once all the necessary paperwork is completed, we begin trekking through the montane forest to Simba Camp. Dinner will be served at Simba Camp, followed by a briefing from your guide about the next day’s plans.

Day 2Simba Campsite - Kikelelwa Campsite

Elevation: 2650m – 3600 m
Distance:17km 
Hiking time:7 hours 
Habitat: moorlands 
 
On this day just after breakfast we start climbing to the second cave campsite a hot lunch will be served here. After lunch we trek crossing moorlands to Mawenzi peak to Kikelelwa campsite situated in a sheltered valley. We will have  dinner here with a briefing of the next day.

Day 3Kikelelwa campsite to Mawenzi Turn Hut

Elevation:3600m – 4330m
Distance: 3 Km 
Hiking time: 4 hours 
Habitat: semi desert 
 
After breakfast, we embark on a steep, short trek through a semi-desert landscape to reach Mawenzi Turn Camp, positioned directly below Mawenzi Peak. At Mawenzi Turn Hut Camp, you’ll encounter the stunning undried lake, unique for its lack of an inlet or outlet. Lunch will be provided at the camp, allowing for some rest before dinner and a briefing from your guide regarding the following day’s itinerary.

Day 4Acclimatization [ For 6 days itinerary this day is omitted]

For those following a 7/8-day itinerary, an additional day will be spent at the camp. Your guide will lead a trek to Mawenzi Ridge, providing a valuable acclimatization opportunity. Upon return to camp, lunch will be served, followed by dinner and a briefing for the next day’s activities.

Day 5Mawenzi Turn Hut - Kibo Hut Campsite

Elevation:4330m – 4720m
Distance:8 Km 
Hiking time: 4-5 hours 
Habitat: Alpine desert. 
 
After breakfast, the trek commences towards Kibo Hut, where lunch awaits. Following lunch, there will be a briefing regarding the summit trek, along with a check of your mountain gear. Rest time is scheduled before dinner, allowing for early rest to aid recovery. It’s advised to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and to consume the meals provided.

Day 6Summit Day/ Kibo hut/ Uhuru peak/ Horombo Campsite

Elevation: 4720m – 5895m – 3720m 
Distance: 6km up / 15 Km down 
Hiking time:12-15 hours 
Habitat: Alpine desert.
 
At midnight, we’ll rise and have a light breakfast before beginning the summit hike. For this hike, you’ll need to carry 2-3 liters of water and some chocolate bars. The ascent will take 6-7 hours, during which we’ll trek along the Kibo Crater ridge for about one and a half hours from Gilman’s Point to Uhuru Peak. As the early sunrise escorts us, we’ll spend 10-15 minutes at Uhuru Peak for photos before descending to Kibo Hut. Here, you’ll be served hot food and can take a short nap before we continue our descent to Horombo Campsite. Dinner will be served at Horombo Campsite, where we will spend the night.

Day 7Horombo Campsite/ Hut - Marangu Gate/ Moshi

Elevation: 3720 m – 1800m – 800 m
Distance:19km 
Hiking time: 5-7 hours.
 
After spending the night at Horombo Campsite, you’ll have breakfast before preparing for our descent. We’ll trek through the moorlands to Mandara Hut, where lunch will be provided. Afterward, we’ll continue through the montane forest to Marangu Gate. At the gate, you’ll sign out before being driven back to the hotel. Here, you’ll receive a certificate and have the opportunity to tip the entire crew.

• Prices differ among operators, so choose carefully.

• We provide competitive rates for food, equipment, transportation, and staff wages.

• Our services surpass others because we hold our clients in high esteem.

• We arrange group climbs for 10-20 people, as well as solo clients, honeymooners, pairs, and family tours. Private climbs and safaris are available daily, so it’s advisable to book with us as early as possible for any date, climbing route, or safari, regardless of the number of participants.

• Please be aware that we never add individuals to a private climb or safari without the group’s consent.

• We provide a two-night hotel stay in Moshi with a bed and breakfast. Please ensure you book your accommodation in Moshi rather than Arusha.

Our standard packages include a 2-inch foam sleeping mattress. If you prefer a thicker option, you can choose a 4-inch foam mattress for an additional cost, as mentioned above.
