The Lemosho Route is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and well-balanced paths up Mount Kilimanjaro. Beginning on the western side of the mountain, it offers a longer and more gradual approach, giving climbers plenty of time to acclimatize while enjoying some of Kilimanjaro’s most stunning and varied scenery.
This 8-day itinerary maximizes acclimatization and summit success rates, making it one of the best choices for those aiming to reach Uhuru Peak with confidence. Unlike shorter routes, the extended duration allows for a steady pace and a more comfortable adjustment to the high altitude, all while crossing diverse ecosystems—from lush rainforest and sweeping heathlands to dramatic alpine deserts and glacial landscapes.
For trekkers who value both the journey and the destination, the Lemosho Route delivers a truly unforgettable experience. With panoramic views, fewer crowds in the early days of the trek, and an awe-inspiring approach to the summit via Stella Point, the 8-day Lemosho Route is a rewarding and scenic path to Africa’s highest peak.

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where our friendly team will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi, the gateway to Kilimanjaro. In the evening, meet your mountain guide for a detailed climb briefing and gear check. Use this time to rest, hydrate, and prepare for your adventure. Overnight stay in Moshi.

Tulivu has always been in our hearts, even though opening a boutique hotel wasn’t something we initially envisioned. Our passion for hosting family and friends, creating unforgettable experiences, and sharing fine dining brought us so much joy over the years. Eventually, we realized this warmth and hospitality could be shared with others. That’s when the idea for Tulivu Kilimanjaro Retreat and Campsite was born.

After breakfast, drive to Lemosho Gate (2,100 m) and complete park formalities. Trek through the lush Montane Forest, a prime zone for blue monkeys and colobus. The trail gradually ascends to Mti Mkubwa Camp. Dinner and overnight in the forest zone..
The trail steepens as you leave the forest and enter moorland. Stunning views of Shira Ridge emerge as you climb. Cross rocky ridges and valleys to reach Shira 1 Camp. A great day to start adjusting to the higher elevation.
An easier day for acclimatization. Cross the rolling Shira Plateau with magnificent views of Kibo Peak. You’ll spot strange plants and possibly some alpine wildlife. Afternoon options include an acclimatization hike. Overnight at Shira 2 Camp.
Today is crucial for acclimatization. Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630 m), where you’ll stop for lunch. Then descend to Barranco Camp, located in a valley below the iconic Barranco Wall. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy aids in acclimatization.
Start by climbing the thrilling Barranco Wall (nicknamed “Breakfast Wall”), then traverse ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. This short but demanding day continues the acclimatization process, preparing you for summit night.
Hike steadily upward toward Barafu Camp, your base for summit night. Enjoy an early dinner, rest, and prepare gear for the final ascent. The landscape here is alpine desert—cold and windy with minimal vegetation.
Wake at midnight and begin your summit attempt under the stars. Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) at sunrise—Africa’s highest point! After photos and celebrations, descend to Barafu for brunch, then continue to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Enjoy a final breakfast before descending through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for a hot shower, rest, and celebration.
