OVERVIEW
 
A balanced diet of high calorie is highly essential to successful summit the peak. As the hike is more demanding, so to help sustain your level of exertion, we prepare a Kilimanjaro Food list to keep you healthy and active during Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing
 
THE BREAKFAST :
 
The breakfast consists of Porridge, Omelets, Sausage/Bacon, White Toast, Pineapple or Mango Juice, Bananas, Coffee, Tea and Milo.
 
The effects of altitude first come once you cross the 2400m mark and happen stronger once you cross 3000m. The preliminary symptoms you can feel are headache, fatigue, problems with the digestive system, sleep disturbance and dizziness.
 
THE LUNCH :
 
A soup of mixed vegetables with bread is offered as a warm-up before your lunch. This is followed by a dish of fish, chicken or beef stew and fresh vegetables served with pasta, potatoes, or rice and sauces. Sometimes fresh vegetables like Banana, orange, Pineapple Juice, a white bread sandwich with jelly / jam is on offer.
 
THE DINNER :
 
The dinner is quite similar to lunch. For dessert, you will be served cake or pancake freshly whipped up on the mountain topped with honey or seasonal fruits.
 
Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, celiac, lactose-free or if you have any allergies, just inform us before your arrival so that we can make all the necessary arrangements well before time.
 
HERE ARE SOME BEST PRACTICES FOR EATING AND DRINKING ON KILIMANJARO
 
– Wash your hands before every meal.
– Don’t skip meals. Eat even if you are not hungry.
– Eat a high carbohydrate diet (which we will provide).
– Bring snacks from home that you love to eat.
– Drink at least four litres of water per day.
– Take electrolytes.
– Avoid consuming alcohol, tobacco or depressant drugs including barbiturates, tranquilizers, sleeping pills and opiates.
– Avoid excessive caffeine consumption.
– You will be amazed at the variety, quality & quantity of Kilimanjaro Food we serve to you whilst you are on your Kilimanjaro Climbing. Ensuring that you are well fed – and fully fueled for Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing – so you’ve enough energy to get to the top.
